Every aspect of our facility is designed with us in mind—from specialized hair care services that embrace our natural textures, to light errand support including shopping at stores, laundry, and medication management. We offer personalized grooming, transportation, and soul-nourishing, home-cooked meals that celebrate our rich culinary traditions. Our goal is to create a warm, supportive environment where every resident feels valued, respected, and deeply cared for. At Mahogany Homes, we go above and beyond to ensure that each person’s dignity, heritage, and sense of belonging are at the heart of everything we do. Activities
At Mahogany Homes, we believe that joy and fun have no age limit, so we prioritize creating a vibrant, engaging atmosphere for our residents’ mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Whether it’s enjoying a Madea movie for some laughter, gathering around for a game of spades, or sharing stories that connect us to our culture, we ensure that our activities reflect the richness of the African-American experience. To keep our residents active and healthy, we bring in Black physical trainers twice a month to lead movement classes tailored to their needs. We understand the importance of maintaining strong character through meaningful interactions—not just with fellow residents, but also with family and staff. At Mahogany Homes, we foster an environment where relationships are nurtured, health is prioritized, and every moment feels like a celebration of community, heritage, and togetherness.
Meals
Nutritious meals, thoughtfully prepared with care and infused with rich cultural flavors that honor African American culinary traditions. Each dish is tailored to meet individual dietary needs and personal preferences, ensuring every meal is both nourishing and a flavorful celebration of heritage. To enhance the experience, we bring in local Black chefs twice a month to showcase their talent and bring fresh, authentic perspectives to the table.
Drop In Care
Our drop-in elder care services are designed with the unique needs of the Black community in mind, offering compassionate support for your loved ones with a minimum of four hours per visit. We understand the importance of family, culture, and tradition, and our caregivers are committed to providing personalized care that respects and honors those values. Whether it’s assisting with daily activities, offering companionship, or helping with grooming and medication reminders, our experienced team is here to make sure your family member feels safe, respected, and loved. The four-hour minimum ensures that each visit is meaningful and thorough, giving families the flexibility to balance their own busy lives while knowing their loved ones are in trusted, capable hands.
Our Story
My grandmother, Ellen Connors, taught in Oakland public schools for over 30 years. As her dementia progressed, I struggled with the idea of moving her from my home to a residential care facility. I couldn’t find a place that would provide the level of care she deserved—one that truly understood and respected her needs and preferences as a Black woman. That’s when Mahogany Homes was born. My grandmother raised me with deep values: to always respect and honor my elders, to maintain a clean and loving home, to have an open and giving heart, and to always lend a hand to those in need. She also instilled in me the importance of never forgetting where I came from—staying rooted in my heritage and community. These guiding principles are at the heart of Mahogany Homes, where we strive to provide the care, dignity, and community that every elder deserves.

About Us
We are an African-American owned and operated elder care facility and services provider, proudly based in Oakland, California. Our mission is to offer your loved one the opportunity to live in a true home, surrounded by love, community, and a deep sense of purpose. We provide both private and shared room options for full-time residents, along with flexible drop-in care services. Operating under the For Us By Us (FUBU) model, our services are thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs of the African-American community, with a focus on culture, dignity, respect, and love. We strive to give each resident a renewed sense of purpose, ensuring they feel valued, connected, and integral to the community.
